This week we continue with our Advent series. This week we will be exploring “Come thou long expected Jesus” a hymn that draws us back into the place of the Israelites, hoping for God to send a king who would bring freedom, strength, and consolation.

Last week was the mid-point on our three-week journey through Phillipians 2:5-11

So far we have explored the dual nature of Jesus and what it means for us that he is both fully God and fully human. 

In the last part of the series this week Craig will explore how these two ideas come together in the Lordship of Jesus. 

"Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord" Philippians 2:9-11

Last week Craig began on a three-week journey through Philippians 2:5-11 beginning with a focus on Jesus' Divinity. 

This week he will look at the humanity of Christ - was Jesus really a human or did he just look like one? Why does that even matter? How does knowing the humanity of Jesus impact our relationship with him today? Knowing and understanding the importance of who Jesus is influences much of the connection to and practice of our faith. 

Over the next three Sundays Craig will be journeying with us through Phillipians 2:5-11 beginning this week with a focus on Jesus' Divinity. 

What does the fact that Jesus really was God mean for us? How does this change the way we think about and relate to him... this is the first part of the picture as we begin to explore the nature of Jesus and how it impacts our faith.

Last week, with Nehemiah overcoming the opposition to the wall building project the wall was finished – woohoo! That’s often where we finish telling the Nehemiah story – we love a happy ending.  But we are actually only halfway through the book, and in reality, things rarely work out so neatly in the middle of life.  So, this week we look at the book's final chapters with a focus on chapters 8 and 9 to discover that the key to faith through the messy stories in life is to focus on who God is!
