Jonah | Love The World - Jonah, How are You Doing, Really?

What is Jonah feeling throughout this traumatic adventure? He seems to move quickly from rest to stress, from happy contentment to burning anger (Jonah 4:16). How are his feelings connected to his thinking and beliefs? How do our feelings either restrict or release our ability to love both God and others? And do our thoughts and emotions move us to action, to real expression of love?

What was Jonah thinking when he jumped on a ship to escape God? Even the pagan sailors are in disbelief   (Jonah 1: 10). What is Jonah thinking as he goes below deck to sleep, say's 'throw me overboard', sinks deep into the sea, hangs out the belly of the fish (or Sheol) for a few days, walks 400 miles to Nineveh, preaches judgement and then awaits compassion instead? What are the beliefs and thoughts that drive this eccentric prophet? And how might they contrast the mind of God? How does our thinking either restrict or release our ability to love both God and others?

The short book of Jonah contrasts: God’s power with Jonah’s disobedience and God's compassion with Jonah’s prejudice. This Sunday was a FAMILY SPECIAL with fun for all ages. We continued with 'Jonah - Love the World' and looked at how both a BIG FISH and a small worm can be messages of God's love.

An introduction to the book and prophet, Jonah. Is the story of Jonah for real or an allegory? Sounds like’ the tale of a whale’ (Jonah 1:17). Amidst miracles both massive and tiny is this short book’s purpose to contrast God’s power with Jonah’s disobedience, or His compassion with Jonah’s prejudice? Why has God included this very unique and unusual prophetic book in his word to us?

Jonah | Love the World - A Prophet of Israel & Sign of Jesus

This week we start looking at the story of Jonah. Why?

Loving the World is a big deal for us at CBC because it's a big deal for Jesus. He loves this world, and we are included in 'His world' that He loves. To love God, is to love each other, is to love the World, for we are loved.

The story of Jonah will help us understand this some more.

In Jonah over the coming weeks we will answer questions like:

• Is it right for Me to love the world?
• What do I THINK and FEEL about my world?
• HOW will I love my world?

Love The World

The past 18 months we have been seeking to discover God's love, or we might say 'God's love is discovering us'.

His love brings us into a circle of relationship with Him in which we grow in loving Him... to then find within us a love for one another. 

This love is an outward expression of our love for Him. The circle of His Love widens. What if the circle of the love of God has no end? 
How wide can it go?
