Ready and Rested | Isaiah 40

Sunday's at CBC this month we explored being both Rested and Ready and how they related to a rhythm of life God has design us for.  So as we come off being Rested are we Ready for 2019 and what lies ahead?

Life's often a mixture of hot and cold, work and play, busy and slow.  Problem comes when its all hot busy work!  Finding the rhythm of life is not that easy and when we finally get time to slow down, play or sit in the shade we either don't know what to do or just want to stay there forever.

Over the next 3 Sunday's at CBC, SUMMER AT CBC, we are going to consider being both RESTED and READY and how they related to a rhythm of life God has design us for.  So as many of us come off being RESTED are we READY for 2019 and what lies ahead?

Is that just the way it has been portrayed by the writer or is it actually possible to respond that way when we get unexpected or unwanted news in our own lives?

"Peace on earth" is something often heard around this time of year. Is it really a thing though? Not many of us would use the word peace to describe the state of things be it in us or around us. So what is the deal, why do we hear this phrase at Christmas time, is it a possibility and if so how do we get there?

• Who and what is our world?
• Who do 'we' (the church) get angry over and consider outside of God's love?
• Who are our Ninevites? Is it right for God to love 'our' world? Or is it 'his' world?
• What and who do I love and why?
• How do I learn to love what and whom God loves?

This Sunday the Elders present the decision of the Gender Role Review. This review considered the role of women as Elders, Teachers and Pastors at CBC and follows several months of review, discussion and prayer by the Elders and The Advisory Panel with input from the CBC community.

What is Jonah feeling throughout this traumatic adventure? He seems to move quickly from rest to stress, from happy contentment to burning anger (Jonah 4:16). How are his feelings connected to his thinking and beliefs? How do our feelings either restrict or release our ability to love both God and others? And do our thoughts and emotions move us to action, to real expression of love?
