Christians Against Poverty - Mark 10
Sunday Mar 31, 2019
Sunday Mar 31, 2019
This Sunday we are excited to hear from Abbey about Christians Against Poverty's (CAP) heart and mission: to release Kiwis from a life sentence of debt, poverty and its causes - into a life filled with hope and freedom.
Originally from Canada, Abbey has called New Zealand home for the past 14 years. Abbey first encountered CAP when a change in circumstances prompted her to attend a ‘CAP Money’ course…fast forward a few years and Abbey now works full-time at CAP!
In her role as Church Partnership Director, Abbey loves journeying with churches to help them find their ‘CAP sweet spot’ - supporting the church’s own vision to reach their community, and empower people to step out into their callings and giftings.
This Sunday we dig into Mark 10:46-52 and explore the opportunities for CBC to connect with CAP.

This week special guest Carolyn Dodd will explore with us what must it have been like to walk and talk with Jesus? To have a front row seat as he commanded obedience from the wind and the waves, cast out demons, healed the sick, raised the dead. When we watch Jesus in action we see His heart and the heart of His father and - like the disciples - we are compelled to ask "Who is this?!"

The Good News - Mark 3-4

Sunday Feb 24, 2019
This week we will be see how the Good News of Jesus was not just a call towards heaven, but a call to consider how we live and interact with those around us. Jesus hung out with what many would consider the weirdest of people. He challenged long held religious traditions of his day. And He told stories (or Parables) that were completely counter cultural and sounded nothing like the normal religious teaching at all.

The Good News - Mark 2:1-12

In chapter 1 v 14-15 of Mark it says that Jesus was proclaiming ‘the good news of God’ and that the ‘Kingdom of God has come near” -a statement that seems odd when it was still years before Jesus would go to the cross. But in chapter 2 we learn that not only does Jesus come bringing physical wholeness but also spiritual wholeness to the paralysed man, commanding him to walk and forgiving him his sins. This story is important to our understanding of what the good news is, how far reaching it goes and to whom the message applies. This reminds us of the expansive nature of the good news about Jesus.

Sunday Feb 03, 2019
This Sunday we begin our new series in the book of Mark. Mark is a ‘gospel’, or ‘good news’ … good news about Jesus. The truth is that the good news is more than the message about Jesus, it is Jesus! The relationship he offers, the life he brings, the hope he gives, the transformation he empowers … these are all ‘good’ and Mark is giving us the ’news’ as he unfolds the story of Jesus
